Choosing Your Lace Wig

Deciding to buy a new wig is a fun and exciting journey, especially when you have the right information and know exactly what you are looking for. Natural hair wigs are a wonderful option if you want to try something different with your look, however, figuring out which option is right for you is the challenging part.

This guide will walk you through a few different types of human hair lace wigs. When you finish reading this guide, most of your questions about full lace, lace frontal, lace closure and T-part lace wigs will be answered.

Full Lace

A full lace wig is made of a sheer lace mesh to which natural hair strands are individually tied in over the whole area of the wig. Full lace wigs are therefore more expensive than other types of wigs. These wigs usually have a very natural and sleek look.

Versatility

The hairstyle versatility with a full lace wig is endless! Any hairstyle that can be done with natural hair can be attained with a full lace wig, if you enjoy switching your hairstyles up, a full lace wig may be the best choice for you. Hairstyles such as cornrows, two braids, pony tails or any other creative hairstyle is attainable. Let your imagination flow.

Pros

  • Versatility to wear your hair in any style;

  • Natural authentic look.

Cons

  • More expensive than other types of wigs;

  • As with any wig, your full lace wig will shed hair over time. Unfortunately, with a full lace wig, due to how it is made, it does not have the capacity for new hair to be added to it.

Lace Frontal

A lace frontal wig is made up of a sheer lace mesh with natural hair strands individually tied in on the part which runs along the forehead from ear to ear. This part usually stretches 13 inches and goes about 5 inches back. The rest of the wig is made up of bunches (wefts) of hair sewn onto the lace mesh.

Versatility

The nice thing about a lace frontal wig is that you are able to part your hair whichever way you like within the frontal lace section, and it will look totally natural. The lace mesh, which runs the whole length of your hairline, gives the illusion that it is your actual scalp. This also allows you to wear a full or half-ponytail.

All lace wigs do have a lifetime and the hair will shed due to manipulation of any kind such as bleaching, colouring or constant daily combing, but don’t be alarmed, this is only natural. With a lace frontal wig this issue can be rectified because more hair bundles (wefts) can be added to the back section of the wig.

Pros

  • Lace frontal wigs tend to have a nice thickness;

  • Over the lifetime of the wig hair will shed from manipulation, more hair bunches (wefts) can be added in to restore the volume of a lace frontal wig or for a more glamorous full hair look;

  • Quite a large parting area for a realistic look;

  • Cheaper in price than a full lace wig;

  • If the lace frontal wig is too big for your head, it can be cut and sewn in order to be adjusted.

Cons

  • Not as many options for styling as a full lace wig.

Lace Closure

A lace closure wig is made up of a sheer lace mesh with natural hair strands individually tied in on the part which runs from temple-to-temple (approx 4 inches) and about 4 inches back.The remainder of the wig is made up of bunches of hair (wefts) sewn onto the lace mesh.

Versatility

Because the size of the lace where hair is individually sewn in is smaller on a lace closure wig than on a full lace or lace frontal wig, you do not have the same versatility when it comes to hairstyles.You are more or less limited to either a center part or a side part.

If, however, you would like to find out what your lace closure wig is really capable of, find yourself a good hairdresser who is experienced with wigs, you may be surprised at the wonderful styling options there are available.

Pros

  • The cost of a lace closure wig is cheaper than a full lace or lace frontal wig;

  • As with a lace frontal wig, extra bunches (wefts) of hair can be sewn in to make a fuller look.

Cons

  • Much less versatility than full lace or lace frontal wigs, limited to a middle or side part.

  • Less natural look and you won’t be able to tuck your hair behind your ears.

T-Part

A T-Part wig is made up of a sheer lace mesh with natural hair strands individually tied in on the part which runs along the hairline from ear to ear and lace down the middle frontal section forming a “T”.The remainder of the wig is made up of bunches of hair (wefts) sewn onto the lace mesh. A T-Part wig can only be parted down the middle, and is basically limited to one hairstyle.

Versatility

Of all options of wigs, a T-Part wig is the lowest when it comes to versatility and is limited to a part down the middle.

Pros

The main benefit of a T-Part wig is the cost, it is the lowest of all wig options, if you are someone who changes up their wigs often, then this option would be the most cost effective for you.

Cons

A T-Part wig is very limited when it comes to different hairstyles, it can only be parted down the middle and hair cannot be worn behind the ears.
