Wig Essentials Part 1 - Wig Adhesive

Wig glue Flawless Lengths Hair Salon

Whether you are new to wearing wigs or a seasoned wig wearer, one of the most important decisions is how to secure your wig to your scalp. There are a few options for wig wearers to choose from, what might work for one person may not work for another person. Your decision may also depend on the type of wig you are wearing. One option to securing your wig to your scalp is wig adhesive.

Wig adhesive is a type of bonding agent used to secure wigs, hairpieces, and hair extensions onto the scalp. Wig adhesive comes in different formats, below we will discuss spray, glue and tape as well as a lovely add on option.

Spray Adhesive

Spray adhesives are easy to apply, providing a quick and even distribution of adhesive onto the scalp or wig cap. Users can adjust the spray nozzle to control the amount of product dispensed, allowing for precise application. Spray adhesives typically offer a lightweight hold that allows for natural movement and flexibility. This can be beneficial for individuals who prefer a less rigid hold or those with sensitive skin. Many people find spray adhesives comfortable to wear, as they do not leave behind a heavy or sticky residue. However, it's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application to avoid excessive buildup or irritation. The longevity of spray adhesives may vary depending on factors such as humidity, activity level, and individual body chemistry. Some formulations offer a stronger hold that lasts for an extended period, while others may require more frequent touch-ups throughout the day. Spray adhesives can typically be removed with the appropriate adhesive remover or solvent. It's important to follow the recommended removal process to ensure the adhesive is completely dissolved and the wig can be safely removed without causing damage to the scalp or natural hair.

Got 2b Glued Blasting Freeze Spray

This spray is easy to use and great for beginner wig wearers. It has a light hold and it dries quickly. It is a great choice for someone who only wants to wear their wig for one day and remove it at night. You can find this spray adhesive in many stores but from my experience the cheapest price is on Amazon.

WonderLace Bond Adhesive Spray Supreme

This spray is similar to Got2B Glued Blasting Freeze Spray but has a stronger hold which lasts 24 hours and possibly longer. This adhesive spray has pretty good sweat and humidity resistance, I personally have never experienced it lifting through the day. It is beginner friendly, easy to use and dries quickly. It comes in two sizes, the regular size of 180ml and a smaller size of 80ml which is great for when you travel .

Glue Adhesive

Glue adhesive is quite easy to use, it typically comes in squeeze bottles or tubes, making them easy to apply directly to the scalp or the perimeter of the wig cap. The gel consistency allows for precise application without dripping or running. Glue adhesives provide a controlled hold, allowing you to adjust the amount of product applied for your desired level of adhesion. This makes them suitable for both daily wear and extended wear. Glue adhesives typically offer a strong hold that lasts for an extended period, reducing the need for frequent reapplication. However, the exact duration of hold may vary depending on factors such as humidity, activity level, and individual body chemistry. Despite their strong hold, glue adhesives are usually easy to remove with the appropriate adhesive remover. This helps minimize any potential damage to the skin and natural hair during the removal process.

Got2b Glued Spiking Glue

This glue has a firmer hold than the Got2B Glued Spray discussed above, it is great for a more experienced wig wearer. It is good for someone who only wants to wear their wig for one day and take it off, but the glue can be layered for a firmer hold. To layer for a firmer hold: apply 1 coat, let dry for 1 minute, repeat 3 times then apply wig. Requires at least 5 minutes drying to set wig band. This is super accessible and sold in almost every store, but from my experience the cheapest price is on Amazon.

Tape Adhesive

Wig tape is a type of adhesive used to secure wigs, hairpieces, or toupees in place. It typically comes in the form of double-sided tape, which allows it to stick to both the scalp and the inside of the wig or hairpiece.

Wig tape is popular because it provides a secure hold without damaging the natural hair or the wig itself. It's easy to apply and remove, and it doesn't leave residue behind.

There are different types of wig tape available, including medical-grade options that are hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin. Users should always test a small area of their skin before using any adhesive products to ensure they don't have an adverse reaction.

Walker Ultra Hold Wig Tape

This tape offers an ultra hold while also being water proof and sweat resistant. You can work out and even swim without the worry of your wig or topper coming off. As well, it is long lasting and can possibly last up to one month! This tape works best on areas with close to no hair or on bald heads.
